What the story establishes

Acoustics and toneA genteel, ceremonious courtly atmosphere of tea-sipping, feasting, and theater, punctuated by formal ritual such as knocking a great drum ('Boom-boom') to gain admission to the throne room.
AppearanceEntered through a large arch carved with peacocks and a crowned fox's head; the city itself has houses of carved marble in bright colors decorated with birds, and a central square holding the golden-throned royal palace. (as of ch. 92)
