What the story establishes
| Appearance | A golden staff with a jeweled ball at the end, held by King Kik-a-bray between his front hoofs. (as of ch. 96) |
| Enchantments | One-directional transformation magic (can change a being's head/form) and conjuration magic (can summon objects such as food and furnishings); the King cannot reverse effects it creates. |
| Granted power | When waved by King Kik-a-bray, the jeweled staff works transformative and conjuring magic, but strictly in one direction only: it can DO things but cannot UNdo them. Demonstrated powers are (1) transforming a person's head into an animal (donkey) head instantly and irreversibly, and (2) conjuring a fully set tea-table with linen, dishes, and each guest's individually desired food and drink appearing instantly. The King cannot reverse his own transformations; a victim must find and bathe in the Truth Pond to regain their original form. |
