Palace of Oz

Also known as the great Throne Room, the Palace of Oz, the great dome, my Palace, this Palace, the royal palace, his throne room, the courtyard, the great palace, the magnificent throne room, her palace, the roof of the palace.

The royal palace of the Ruler of Oz in the Emerald City, now the home of Princess Ozma; a vast building of many rooms containing the great Throne Room, with the Wizard's old apartment lying just back of it.

Appears in 23 chapters, first in chapter 10, last in chapter 88.

What the story establishes

Acoustics and tone	A bright, festive, crowd-filled atmosphere: the great Throne Room rings with applause, cheers, and lively voices during the Wizard's tricks and the trial, not a fearful hush.
Appearance	Its marble steps, once thickly crusted with emeralds, are now filled with tiny holes where the jewels have been ruthlessly torn from their settings by the Army of Revolt. (as of ch. 39)
Controlled by	Held by Ozma, Ruler of Oz, whose royal palace it now is; she hosts the Throne Room performance and the palace luncheon here. (as of ch. 86)
Physical constraints	Freely open to Ozma's guests: the jewelled gates swing open to welcome arrivals into the courtyard rather than barring or strictly screening petitioners.

“Oz keeps a great pot of courage in his Throne Room,” said the man, “which he has covered with a golden plate, to keep it from running over.”Chapter 10

It was a big, round room with a high arched roof, and the walls and ceiling and floor were covered with large emeralds set closely together. In the center of the roof was a great light, as bright as the sun, which made the emeralds sparkle in a wonderful manner.Chapter 11
