Also known as the little party of strangers, the new arrivals, our travelers, our little party of travelers, our travellers, our adventurers, the defenders, the prisoners, the wanderers, the children and the Wizard, the eager watchers.

The stranded surface-world fellowship - Dorothy, the ranch boy Zeb, the cab-horse Jim, the kitten Eureka, and the humbug Wizard of Oz - who were delivered out of the Underground World to the Emerald City by Ozma's Magic Belt. In this closing chapter the fellowship is dissolved: Ozma's Magic Belt sends Dorothy and Eureka home to Kansas and returns Zeb and Jim to Hugson's Ranch in California, while the Wizard alone stays behind to live among the people of Oz.

Appears in 16 chapters, first in chapter 71, last in chapter 89.

This encyclopedia covers chapters 1 to 100 of the story and shows the world as it stands at chapter 100, so it contains spoilers up to that point. To read it spoiler free, one chapter at a time, open the interactive codex.

What the story establishes

Member countFive core members traveling together: Dorothy, Zeb, the Wizard, Jim the horse, and Eureka the kitten, plus the nine tiny piglets carried by the Wizard. (as of ch. 77)
PurposeAccomplished and then dissolved: having escaped the underground world and reached the Emerald City, the fellowship's shared journey ends when Ozma's Magic Belt sends each member home — Dorothy and Eureka to Kansas, Zeb and Jim back to Hugson's Ranch — while the Wizard stays on as Ozma's Official Wizard. The party no longer has a common onward objective. (as of ch. 89)
ReputationNo longer despised intruders: in the Emerald City the strangers are received as honored, welcome guests. Uniformed servants stand ready to greet the new arrivals, Ozma and Dorothy's old friends welcome them warmly, and the Wizard's remembered fame earns him a permanent honored home. (as of ch. 84)
